The following Retirement Readiness Questionnaire will take approximately three minutes to complete and will provide an insight into how ready you are for retirement.

 

Answer Yes or No to the following questions about your retirement:

1.Are you looking forward to your retirement? 
2.Do you know what you will be doing week to week in retirement? 
3.Are you planning on working? 
4.Do you know what your monthly income will be? 
5.Have you discussed your retirement plans with an accountant or financial adviser? 
6.Is it your decision to retire? 
7.Do you have established hobbies and leisure activities? 
8.Do you like change? 
9.Do you know where you are going to live? 
10.Have you shared your retirement plans with your partner or close friends? 
11.Do you think you need to improve your health for retirement? 
12.Do you make most of the decisions in your personal life? 
13.Do you see yourself as happier in retirement than you are now? 
14.Are you free from responsibilities for caring for others in your life, eg. aged parents and/or dependent children? 
15.Will you miss your work? 

As you answered “Yes” to 12 or more questions, congratulations you are well on the way to a successful retirement. You may benefit from looking at the specific questions to which you answered “No” and reflect on what issues they might raise in your retirement. It might be helpful to discuss these with your partner or an independent adviser such as a retirement coach who may allow you to gain even more insight into what is already a well established plan for retirement.

If you answered “Yes” to between 9 and 12  responses, well done you have obviously given some thought to your retirement. You may however benefit from a more formal approach to your retirement and this may involve further planning or work on how you approach your retirement.

 

For example, you may need to examine how you feel about retirement. Are you fearful of the changes it will bring? Are you concerned what you will do on a daily basis? It may also be helpful to discuss the specific questions to which you replied “No” with partner or an independent adviser such as a retirement coach. However, the overwhelming evidence is the more time you spend planning your retirement, the more successful your retirement will be. It is never too late to start the process.
